Spring has sprung... finally! After this punishing winter, it is a joy to finally be seeing the first signs of spring. Our quote this month, by Rachel Carson, brings to mind her landmark book “Silent Spring” – published in 1962. In it, she predicted that unbridled use of synthetic chemicals, particularly DDT, would lead to a spring in the future with no sounds of new life from birds. Thankfully, her pioneering work led to positive changes; although DDT still persists today in the environment!
New initiatives have been underway at EAG this year too! We are proud to be celebrating our twenty-fifth anniversary of uninterrupted customer service. Rachel Carson also stated that “to dispose first and investigate later is an invitation to disaster.” These words have been the guiding philosophy of EAG since its inception a quarter century ago. Our success comes from partnering with our clients to achieve their goals of becoming more environmentally conscientious through implementing and improving processes. Delivery of tailor-made sustainability tools and programs has ensured that EAG clients achieve leadership positioning particularly within the healthcare field. I am ever grateful to pioneers like Rachel Carson who helped to forge a new path toward sustainability, over half a century ago.
By the way, Silent Spring was met with fierce opposition by chemical companies, but it spurred a reversal in national pesticide policy, led to a nationwide ban on DDT for agricultural uses,[2] and inspired an environmental movement that led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.[3][4]
