Everyone has a part to play in reducing waste. We all need to look at our daily habits and make a change, whether it’s turning the lights out if not in a room, making sure electrical items are not left on standby, printing only when necessary and then double-sided, recycle and reuse wherever possible. The National Medicine Take-Back Campaign encourages Canadians to clean out their households of unused and expired prescription drugs as well as over the counter medicines by dropping them off at their local pharmacy. Let’s think of our local pharmacies as our strategic partners in helping us help our climate. Imagine the impact of no one ever again throwing medicines into the garbage or flushing them down the drain. The reduction in the many consequences, known and unknown, of medications in our landfills and waterways would be momentous. All we need to do is make the commitment and take action.
