Federal Plastics Registry (FPR)
The Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) requires businesses that manufacture, import, or sell plastic products in Canada to report annually on the plastics they place on the market. Administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada, the FPR is a national layer of reporting that sits alongside provincial EPR obligations and applies across a broad range of plastic categories including packaging, single-use items, and other plastic products.
For pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, FPR obligations can be significant. Plastic appears throughout the supply chain, from blister packs and bottles to packaging inserts and medical device components. Understanding exactly what falls under the FPR, how to categorize it, and how to report it accurately requires both regulatory knowledge and detailed internal data.
EAG helps clients determine whether they are obligated, identify which plastic categories apply to their product portfolio, collect and organize the data required for annual submissions, and file accurate reports to Environment and Climate Change Canada on their behalf.
